Blue Hill Café Revisited

We actually just went to Storm King again so that I would have an excuse to stop by Blue Hill Café at Stone Barn's farm on the way up to have another one of those über-delicious (did I really just write über?!?) apple tartellettes.

 ...which they didn't have BUT the same kind with strawberries - even better! An awesome breakfast treat and I should have gone ahead and gotten two right then, because one hour later, when we came back from visiting the sheep and the pigs, all strawberry tartellettes had already sold... I might have cried a little...

It was lovely to get out of the concret djungle also known as Manhattan and to see real, cute chiks and ducklings! A round of awwwws please!

Of course we also had to pay a visit to the lambs which both had grown impressively and luckyly survived Easter!

And this is what it looks like when two people who had just had breakfast order lunch... to be fair, we didn't eat all the pastries right then and there but had them as a picknick when we wandered around Storm King!

Storm King revisited

Although I'm back in Berlin, I still have a couple of things to share from New York. For instance photos from another visit to Storm King!

The park is possibly even lovelier in June than in April, when all the trees are green and the meadows are lush.

This visit, we had more time to explore and more or less walked around the entire park! Make sure to bring some water and possibly also a picknick, if you do that, especially on a hot and humid summer day. We also got an audioguide at the visitor's center (which comes with two headsets, so you can share!).
But beware, there are ticks and unfortunately, you can get Lyme disease as an unpleasant souvenir, so make sure to check your entire body when you've been there and if necessary go to the doc!

Apricot Nectarine jam with Vitamin C

I've sort of lost it completely this year when it comes to home made jam. I just can't stop. Not even the fact that I ran out of glasses made me quit - I just went and bought more. And I don't even feel like I'm done yet.

So far I've made:
Strawberry Kirschwasser jam (not pictured)
Apricot strawberry amaretto jam (not pictured)
Black currant Crème de Cassis jam (pictured)
Apricot nectarine jam with vitamin C (pictured)

Apricot nectarine jam with vitamin C is probably my favorite! The idea to add vitamin C comes from a friend who once brought me a glass of jam which I absolutely loved! This year, I finally made some myself! The vitamic C has the effect that the jam doesn't taste too sweet, almost a little tard, in any case super fruity and extremely delicious!

Apricot nectarine jam with vitamin C

500 gr really ripe apricots and nectarines (I think i took 4 or 5 apricots and one nectarine)
juice of one lemone
250 gr of preserving sugar
1 teaspoon of vitamine C (from the pharmacy or drugstore)

Mix everything and heat the mix, after 3-4 minutes, puree part of the jam, put the pot back on the stove for another 2 minutes or until the test whether it has set or not is positive. Fill the jam into glasses which you previously had waiting in a bowl with cooking water.

Tastes best with a Splitterbrötchen from Hacker-Bäcker!
